Amazon Exclusives

My sales figures for this year are actually pretty good for a newcomer. I’m getting regular hits. It’s nothing special, I won’t be giving up the day job any time soon, but it’s better than I had any right to expect.

But I’ve had precisely zero sales on most eBook platforms. Barnes & Noble? Nope. Ibooks? Not so much. I’ve made good sales on Smashwords, but only from my more expensive books. The 0.99 ones? Nada.

I could ask why, but philosophy never was my strong point.

Now, most people who know me will tell you I have a severe aversion to any sort of contract that limits my freedom. However, given that those less expensive books are getting no reads whatsoever, I think the time has come to shake things up.

So, if you’re looking to get any of the following books on another format, now would be the time. I’ve set them to be pulled from all other platforms, and then they’ll go exclusive to Amazon and into Kindle Unlimited.

Of course, if you have KU, the good news is you’ll be able to read these ones for free! Keep watching for an announcement when they go into the system.

Books affected: Jasmin’s Close Encounter, One Stormy Night, Pittsburgh Tales

  1. I wondered if it were the pricing. Most people see 99cents? Pfffbt, must be bad writing/grammar/whatever. But I know that’s not the case. I’ve read your writing and love it. (FYI, people who see 99cents and think it’s bad writing, try again, it might not be.)

    • I know what you mean, and it’s a tough call. The trouble is on Amazon, you only get a 35% royalty unless you go for $2.99, which I think is a bit high for something like Pittsburgh Tales, not because of quality (I wouldn’t put something out that I thought was poor), but because it’s 4 short stories. I know you don’t buy literature by weight or anything, but that seems too much. I would say $1.99 was fair, but as it’s only going to be 65 cents a time, I feel like I may as well go for 35 cents and improve my chances of getting the sale (and therefore increase my readership, which long term is far more valuable to me). I’d happily make them free, except Amazon’s algorithms really penalize against free books.

“Yes Mistress” had lots of downloads this week from the UK, and flirted with the top 20 in lesbian fiction at one point, but that doesn’t help too much because it’s the top 20 in *free* lesbian fiction, so Amazon doesn’t push it.
